OPPORTUNITIES IN THE FIELD

Would you like the opportunity to travel to West Africa and work alongside local staff on one of Girls In Sport projects?
We offer flexible placements and research opportunities giving individuals and groups the chance to gain hands-on experience in the international development sector and thrive on our programmes.

HOW YOU CAN HELP...

IN-COUNTRY VOLUNTEER

The Sports and Literacy Programme requires trained teachers, or individuals with a useful skill set wanting to make a real difference to vulnerable children. In-country volunteers will contribute towards making a lasting impact and legacy. In turn, local volunteers will get the opportunity to partner up with you, giving them the opportunity to learn useful skills to sustain the programme and educate the children. Email us to discuss this further.

All applicants will be asked for an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and will be expected to have the relevant safeguarding training either before or in-country. You will be required to sign the child safeguarding policies and procedures agreement before coming in contact with our beneficiaries.

RESEARCH

Are you a student, graduate or professional interested in research opportunities? We welcome research in many areas to help us inform our work. If you are interested in conducting research in Sierra Leone, please email our team with your proposed research idea to info@girlsinsport.org with 'research' in the subject box. A member of the team will get in touch to discuss current research opportunities.

WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR AN IN-COUNTRY VOLUNTEER?

To be a Girls in Sport In-Country Volunteer we ask that you commit to raising a minimum of £500 before your departure. The funds you raise will support the project you’ll be working on and contribute to further development of our programmes. This means that you can give feedback to your supporters on the impact you are making. We know that covering costs can be challenging, that’s why 20% of your funds raised will go towards covering your in-country expenses (e.g. 20% of £500 = £100, 20% of £1000 = £200). If you need ideas for fundraising then our team will support you in reaching your target. We have a responsibility to the children and families that we support and therefore, all in-country volunteers are subjected to a DBS check.
